This hike offers a gorgeous view of the two Buffalo Peaks and surrounding mountain ranges across the valley of South Park. There are great wildflowers throughout the trail. This is a part of the Buffalo Peaks Wilderness area.This is a CMC Backpacking Section Members Trip. You'll need the Ten Essentials and trekking poles are helpful. There are multiple stream crossings and you'll need water shoes. Bring effective rain gear, appetizing snacks for energy boosts, and 1L - 2L of water. Bug repellant is helpful if you're bugged by bugs. Bring enthusiasm and excitement. 

Food: 7 meals (2 breakfast, 3 lunches, 2 dinners)

Those coming from Denver, please plan to carpool or caravan. Arrive at U.S.-285 & Mountain View Park and Ride by 6:45am. Check in with trip leader. Self organize into carpools and depart no later than 7:00am. The road is washboarded and bumpy, but regular passenger vehicles can make it to the trailhead.

  1. Navigation - map, compass, and GPS system
  2. Sun protection - sunglasses, sunscreen, and hat
  3. Insulation - jacket, hat, gloves, rain shell, and thermal underwear
  4. Illumination - headlamp, flashlight, or lantern
  5. First aid supplies - first aid kit
  6. Fire - matches, lighter, and fire starters; stove and fuel for cooking
  7. Repair kit and tools - duct tape, knife, screwdriver, and scissors
  8. Nutrition - food: 2 breakfast, 3 lunches, 2 dinners, energy rich snacks
  9. Hydration - water and water treatment supplies
  10. Emergency shelter - tent, sleeping bag, and ground insulation
