Hike to a beautiful lake surrounded by dramatic peaks including Mount Yale. The lake has good fishing for cutthroat trout.
Itinerary:
Day 1. After driving to the trail head, climb on a very easy Ptarmigan Lake Trail (#1444) to a location just below Ptarmigan Lake near timberline. Here establish the base camp for the next two nights. (2.5 miles/+1,200').
Day 2. A day to enjoy what this area offers. The group can take a short stroll up to Ptarmigan Lake, can fish the lake, can explore the area, climb any of the numerous 12,000' and 13,000' peaks, or relax at camp.
Day 3. Hike back to the trailhead. (2.5 miles/-1200’).
