High Line Canal

Bike – High Line Canal

Thanksgiving day bike ride where we'll ride nearly the entire length of the highline canal.

  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 60.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 300 ft
  • Pace: ~15 mph

As mentioned in the meeting details we'll plan to use the RTD lightrail system to get us back to our starting point.

From the central park station we'll ride eastbound on the sand creek bike path and intersect the highline trail in Aurora, near Chambers rd. & Colfax.  From there we'll ride SW bound towards Chatfield reservoir.

For those looking to do half-distance, there will be a bail-out point when the trail passes under I-25. Those who want to call it a day will be able to ride a few blocks to the Yale light rail station and take the train either back to union station or to any other station along the I-25 lightrail route.

When we reach Chatfield reservoir we'll ride down the Platte River trail to the Littleton-Mineral station where the ride will officially finish and folks will be able to choose to take the train back to union station, or choose to ride the platte river trail back to union station.

This trip will be helped with the RTD lightrail system to get us to our starting place near central park and get us home at the end of the trail as well.

We'll meet 8:30 at Union station and take the train to the Central Park station where we'll officially start our ride at 9:00.

Required Equipment

Required Equipment

Gravel or road bike with thick tires.  Roughly 1/2 of the ride is on crushed gravel so a gravel bike is preferred.  The gravel is fine enough that a road bike with high volume tires would be able to work as well.

Helmet, sunglasses, bike gloves, spare tube, pump, bike multitool, either a tire patch kit or plugs, extra layers, water and snacks.
