Carhart Trail in Pueblo Mountain Park to the Squirrel Creek Picnic Shelter in the San Isabel National Forest – LIT for Sue Greer. Well maintained trails, 4.8 mile moderate out and back with 750 ft elevation gain, 7 moderately challenging creek crossings after entering the national forest. Casual, 1.0 – 1. 5 mph pace with stops to take in views and identify flowers and birds.

Carhart Trail in Pueblo Mountain Park to the Squirrel Creek Historic Pavilion for a leisurely lunch in the San Isabel National Forest weather permitting – LIT for Sue Greer. Well maintained trails, 4.8 mile out and back with 750 ft elevation gain, 7 moderately challenging creek crossings after entering the national forest with use of trekking pole assisted stepping or short jumps from rock to rock and walking on sapling trees laid across the creek. Enjoy a casual, 1.0 – 1. 5 mph pace with rest stops to take in views and identify flowers and birds. Wildlife is plentiful in the park, deer, wild turkeys, mountain lions, and bears.

Leader permission required with preference given to members of El Pueblo and Colorado Springs Groups. If I have not had the pleasure of hiking with you before, I will want to know the distance and gain of hikes you have done in the last 2 months. I will register participants on the CMC website. An email will be sent out to registered participants on Friday evening, June 7th with details of the hike including weather information.
Everyone is invited to join us for an after hike gathering back at the trailhead after completion of the hike. Bring a chair, beverage of choice, snack/lunch, hiking stories to share.
Meet at the City Park Pool parking lot at 221 S Parkside Lane, Pueblo CO 81005 to determine carpool/car caravan logistics for a 7am departure or at the “Carthart” Trail Parking on Mountain Road, Beulah CO 81023 on Google maps at 7:40 am w/ an 7:50 am hike start time. The hike starts at the trailhead.
Required Equipment
Wear layers to be ready for temperature change, sun, wind, and rain plus hiking boots with good traction and ankle support. Bring trekking poles for areas of gain and creek crossings plus dry socks to change into if needed. Bring 2-3 liters of water and a lunch and/or snacks to eat on the trail in addition to the other 10 essentials.
