The drive to the Venable-Comanche Trailhead is about 1.5 hours from Pueblo and we still are in monsoon season with rain/t-storms starting around noon. Pueblo participants meet at the Pueblo City Park swimming pool parking lot, 221 Parkside Lane 81005 for at 5:00am departure and Colorado Springs participants meet at the junction of highway 67 and CO 96 in Wetmore at 5:30am to carpool. We plan to be at the trailhead at 6:30 am. There is a vault toilet at the trailhead.
From Westcliffe, take CO 69 south for 3.4 miles. Turn right on Schoolfield Road (CR 140). Follow Schoolfield Road for 4.6 miles. Turn left on Schoolfield Road/Willow Lane at the stop sign with staying right when the road curves for 0.2 miles. Turn right on CR 148 for 1.7 miles until seeing signage to entry to the Venable-Comanche Trailhead. GPS 38.082520, -150.564460. The hike starts at the trailhead and does not include carpool travel.
