We will enjoy hiking through ponderosa pines, meadows, aspen, and granite outcroppings out and back 7.6 miles to the summit of Mt. Margaret near Red Feather Lakes. The trail is fairly easy on old logging roads, but there is some moderate rock scrambling near the summit that is necessary to take in the panoramic views of the Lone Pine Valley, Dowdy Lake and surrounding area. We will find a nice lunch spot to refuel before heading back gradually uphill to the trailhead.
Meet on the north edge of the Pringles parking lot, 2100 W. Drake Rd., Ft. Collins, at 7:45 a.m. to carpool 43 miles NW to the Mt. Margaret trailhead (restrooms available there).
