This will an a completely off-trail hike up steep slopes and working around down trees and shrubbery. It is intended for hikers with off-trail experience. This will be a circle trip with no provision to stop short and turn around. The pace will be moderate but unrelenting.
In addition to Griffith Mtn (11,598'), we will also ascend Independence Mtn (11,400'). and Alpine Peak (11,552').
From above treeline we can look west down into the Guanella Pass Road and across the valley to Leavenworth and Paines Peaks. We are likely to see herd(s) of Bighorn Sheep as we hike the ridgeline.
Wooly Mamooth Section BB for a 7:00am departure. Please arrive a bit early to arrange car pools.
Required Equipment
Trekking poles + 10 essentials. Please be prepared for inclimate weather.
