Denver Orbital Trail

Trip

Hiking – Orbital Trail - Segments 25 & 26

For Rocky Mountain Over the Hill Gang members ONLY. We will hike Segments 25 AND 26 (in the opposite direction, Segment 26 then 25) of the Denver Orbital Trail (DOT) which takes us from Majestic View Park just south of W 72nd Ave, east of Kipling in Arvada and finishing where the Dry Creek Trail crosses under Wadsworth Blvd, near Standley Lake in Westminster. We will be on a mix of dirt trails, paved paths and sidewalks.

  • Easy
  • Mileage: 6.1 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 338 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 5,700 ft
  • Pace: Moderate pace 2-2.5 mph

The DOT is a walking route that makes a full circle around Denver.  We are hiking segments 25 & 26. This hike is an additional hike, traveling the opposite way (segment 26 & 25) as there were a number of members on the wait list who have already been added to this hike.

We will be on a variety of trails including Big Dry Creek, Standley Lake, Farmers & Croke Canals, Little Dry Creek, Hoyt Way (street), W 80th Ave (pedestrian path), and Croke Canal.  We’ll pass by or through the following parks and Open Space: Big Dry Creek Open Space, Westbrook Park, Standley Lake Regional Park, Lakecrest Park, Woodrun Park, Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge, Club Crest Park North, and Majestic View Park.  Whew – all in a little over 6 miles!

There is a bathroom where we are meeting and one along the way.

This route is exploratory for the trip leaders.

Since the distance between trailheads is short and half of us will be driving, there will be no carpool cost sharing.

We will meet at 9:00am at Big Dry Creek trail head & parking, 9737 Wadsworth Blvd, Westminster, CO 80021. https://maps.app.goo.gl/TRL9aC78wzh5no1E6 We will then carpool to our starting spot at Majestic View Park.
