Plan for an early morning meetup so we can begin our hike around 7 a.m. I believe this hike will take up 5-6 hours, and we will want to be down before any afternoon thunderstorms.
I hiked from this trailhead last year, and it gets very busy later in the day from the Glacier Gorge Trailhead to the turnoff for Sky Pond. Once we are past Mills Lake, I do not expect the trail to be too crowded. We may have a bit of a wait (but not too long) for the shuttle upon our return.
Expect beautiful scenery for this hike! Should be a very fun day!
We will meet at the Lyons Visitor Center at 5:30 a.m. and promptly depart for RMNP. Once inside RMNP, we will take the free shuttle a short distance to the Glacier Gorge Trailhead where we will begin our hike. I can take 3-4 people (4 is a bit snug, but doable) in my vehicle.
I plan on driving, and if you do also, please log on to Recreation.gov the night prior 7 p.m. (7/10) and reserve a timed entry pass for Bear Lake Road. (I highly recommend being logged on and ready to reserve right at 7 p.m.) This trip is dependent on getting the pass (I've not had any issues in the past getting one the evening prior.)
Required Equipment
Ten Essentials. I always recommend poles if you have them.
