Goose Creek Trailhead

Trip

Hiking – Shaft House from Goose Creek Trailhead

We are going to the Shafthouse Overlook, which requires a little bit of Class 3 scrambling to access. Along the way, we will stop by the old cabins and equipment; on the way back we will follow a trail along Goose Creek. This will be 10 miles, 1500 feet elevation. The fall colors -- aspens on the slopes and riparian vegetation along the creek -- should be excellent, as will the rock formations, so we will stop often for photo opportunities. Please don't sign up if you just want to walk to the destination without stopping.

Please note the following:

1. We will stop often for photography of leaves and rocks (including on the drive up Matukat Road) while walking quickly when moving. Please don't sign up if you don't want to wait while people enjoy their experience.

2. A small amount of class 3 scrambling (6 rocks, no exposure beyond those rocks) is required to get to the overlook. We will help each other as needed, but be aware of this.

3. Contact me via email or phone (719) 216-3932 before signing up so I can go over these with you. Priority will be given to Pikes Peak and El Pueblo members; members of other groups will be waitlisted until 2 weeks before the trip.
