Please text Sue Greer at (214) 552-9480 by Friday, Aug 1 at 8 pm if you would like to join the hike and which location and time you will meet the group. Leader permission is required with preference given to members of El Pueblo and Colorado Springs Groups. If I have not had the pleasure of hiking with you before, I will want to know the distance and gain of hikes you have done in the last 2 months.  An email will be sent out to registered participants on Saturday evening, August 2 with details of the hike including updated weather information.

Beginners, new members, slow hikers, picture takers and wildflower/birdwatching enthusiasts are all welcome.  This is a dog friendly hike for friendly dogs on leash.  Bring water for the dogs as there is only one creek crossing. This is a hiker/horse/motorbike trail.

MEETING LOCATION: Pueblo and other Southern Colorado participants will meet at 8:00 am for a 8:10 am departure from the parking lot in the small strip mall that is located to the west of the Loaf N’ Jug on the corner of Lake Ave and Pueblo Blvd in Pueblo (1201 W. Pueblo Blvd, 81005) to determine carpool logistics. Those desiring to do so can meet at the Lion Park trailhead (South Creek Trailhead) just off HWY 165 between the Bishops Castle and HWY 78 at 8:50 am for a 9:00 am departure. The hike starts and ends at the trailhead.

**NOTE:  There is ample parking, but the dirt road into the parking area is short, but steep and has an erosion channel and low clearance is not recommended.  The Prius made it, but it was sketchy.  A CRV, Crosstrek, or other moderate clearance vehicle is recommended and stick to the left edge of the road.  We will be driving the Red CRV for this hike.  There is one parking spot at the top, and maybe some road pull off parking if the entrance is too wet after this week's rains.

Required Equipment

Plan for snacks on the trail and a rest with snacks at the top.  Lunch will be back at the cars to beat the heat. Wear layers and bring the 10 essentials and 1-2 liters of water. Trekking poles are recommended as there are a lot of loose rock and motorbike erosion areas. Bug spray may be needed as the forest is moist, but there is only one very small creek crossing at the beginning.  Bring a camping chair and libation of choice for an after hike celebration with lunch at the parking area.
