RMOTHG Trip – Berthoud Pass

(Correction: this hike should be under "Butler Gulch") This 4 mile / 1000 ft gain spike-hike ascends the Butler Gulch Trail to treeline - and further if conditions allow. We'll maintain a steady, brisk pace (1.8 - 2 mph) with minimal stops. Estimated time to complete: 3-4 hours.

In Winter - especially above treeline - the 10 Essentials can be critical. Of particular importance is a Bivy Sac.  Most Recommended:  "SOL Escape Bivy."

Snowshoes and/or Microspikes and Poles with baskets are required.  
Kahtoola Microspikes are the Standard. Yaktrax & similar are typically inadequate - except for walking on icy urban sidewalks.

Bring hand-warmers and a system to prevent your water from freezing.
