RMOTHG Trip – Mt. Wilcox

This 6 mile / 2200 ft gain loop hike to the top of Mount Wilcox takes us by three pristine alpine lakes surrounded by spectacular peaks. We'll be hiking on mostly off-trail Class 2 terrain – which includes tundra trekking, bushwacking through willows, and rocky, talus sections. Magnificent views in all directions. Estimated time to complete: 5 hours.

Please assess your current aerobic / physical conditioning for spending about 5 hours hiking across uneven tundra and talus at high altitude while gaining 2200 feet of elevation. We'll be maintaining a steady moderate pace with minimal stops.

Poles may be helpfuil while trekking through the uneven tundra and talus.

Meeting Time:    6 am.

A good rule of thumb when considering what to pack (especially for hiking above treeline): Bring what you would need to stay warm & dry if you sprained your ankle or twisted your knee up on the mountain above treeline in a cold rain or hail storm and wouldn't be able to get down for several hours.
