Scramble – Red Mountain (Poudre Canyon)

A steep short off-trail hike to a Class 3/4 scramble of infrequently visited Red Mountain summit; approximately 4 miles round trip, 1500 feet elevation gain, Moderate B. Many route variations are possible, and there are other scrambling opportunities along the way. The route begins with a crossing of the Cache La Poudre river, best done in the fall or early winter when water levels are lower.

Our primary objective will be Red Mountain summit via a Class 3/4 scramble (mild to moderate exposure) following an approach of approximately 1.5 miles and 1500 feet elevation gain.  If conditions permit and there is group interest, we will also do some additional similar scrambling in the surrounding area.   The trip leaders will bring a rope to provide a belay and/or setup a fixed line in exposed areas if desired by any participants.

The exact meeting time and place will be provided approximately 2-3 days before the trip based on weather forecast etc.  Expect to meetup in northern Fort Collins about 8:00 am.
