Summit 2026 – Mt. Columbia - West Slopes

(OPEN ENROLLMENT) A special commemoration of 250/150 on Colorado Day to summit the state's 14ers. This is 2 day trip to summit Mt. Columbia with a hike in to a campsite and summit attempt the next morning.

This is a 2 day trip

Day 1.  Hike approximately 4 miles (~1600ft elev)  on Horn Fork Basin Trail to campsites. 

Day 2. Hike approximately 2.2 miles (~2600 ft elev) on West Slopes trail to summit.  Return to camp, pack up camp and hike out. (Total approx 8 miles).

Please read detailed gear list carefully.  Note this will be a challenging hike with camping gear (heavy packs) up to the campsite.

All participants and leaders are REQUIRED to sign the State of Colorado's liability waiver. Please click here to fill out the waiver.

Participants will register for their preferred 14er through the Colorado Mountain Club website, where they will be placed on a waitlist for their chosen peak (you may join more than one waitlist). From there, trip leaders will reach out to gather more information about each participant's experience level and interests. For trips where the waitlist exceeds the allotted group size, participants will be selected by lottery.

We will meet at the N Cottonwood Creek Trailhead on Friday July 31 around noon to hike into the campsite.  Please arrange your own transportation or carpool.  Exact time and details will be emailed to participants separately.

In addition to the 10 essentials all participants will need to bring appropriate overnight camping gear including:

Tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, bear bag/bin, camping stove, water purifier/filter of preference, wag bag, warm layers.  Plan to bring food for dinner Friday evening, a light breakfast Saturday morning and lunch/snacks during the hike.  It is also a good idea to bring a smaller lightweight day pack for summit day.

It is recommended to have lightweight gear and overall pack weight <30lbs.  For gear questions please contact the trip leader.  More details will be provided in an email to participants.

Participants without adequate camping gear at the trailhead will not be allowed to participate for their own safety.
