BPX 3-Day: Nolan Lake from FS Road 418.1
Hike to Nolan Lake in Holy Cross Wilderness located in a scenic basin with great views of the wilderness along the way. Explore the area, visit beautiful New York Lake or fish the lakes. A moderate 6 mile and 1,700 vertical feet out-and-back trip.
Suggested Backpacking Section (BPX) itinerary for 3-day trip to be used for CMC trips led by BPX leaders for BPX members:
Day 1. After driving to the trail head, the group will climb to a campsite near Nolan Lake. Here the group will camp for two nights. (3 miles/+1,700')
Day 2. The group can fish in the lake or hike on New York Mountain Trail or New York Lake Trail.
Day 3. Hike back to the vehicles. (3 miles/-1700’).
Driving Directions: From I-70 exit 147 for Eagle, turn south on Eby Creek Rd to the Route 6 roundabout. At roundabout, turn right (west) on Route 6/Grand Ave and travel 0.8 miles to next roundabout. At this roundabout, take the third right onto Sylvan Lake Road. Continue 1.6 miles to Brush Creek Road, and take a right on Brush Creek Road. Follow Brush Creek Rd for roughly 9 miles to the fork of East and West Brush Creek. Turn left onto East Brush Creek Rd., FDR 415 and drive for another 10 miles, passing Yeoman Park. After passing Yeoman Park make a left at the first switchback onto FDR 418. Travel for 3 3/4 mile and look for the trailhead on the right, sitting back from the road a bit. Parking is available on the left side of the road.
There is signage at the bottom of the TH for New York Mountain/Lake Trail. Do not take this trail. Take the Nolan Lake Trail.
There is a sign for Nolan Lake about ¾ - 1 mile from the lake. The New York Mountain trail is to the left of that sign as you approach the sign from the TH. NY Mountain Trail is not marked and the trail is faint for ½-¾ of a mile then the trail is marked by cairns.
