K 49

TH: N. Halfmoon Creek. Elevation Gain: 3,200 feet. Summit: 13, 535 ft. RT Length: 8.50 miles. Class 2

2WD vehicles should park at the Mt. Massive trailhead. 4WD with good clearance are able to continue to the N. Halfmoon Creek trailhead. From the TH follow an excellent trail for 1.25 miles to reach a clearing at 11,200', at the junction on the opposite side of the clearing continue straight on the N. Halfmoon Lakes trail.  Remain on the N. Halfmoon Lakes trail to 11,600ft to avoid the ugly terrain down near the creek but now you must bushwack west to "K 49". Leave the trail and walk west into the forest . Having navigated two stream crossings and some side hilling exit the forest to near 11,600' to cross the creek again.
Near 12,100', where you can see the north ridge and summit. Hike up some loose, rocky terrain you gain the ridge crest, at approx. 12,640 ft.  Follow the ridge to the summit.
