Mount Arkansas

Mount Arkansas (13,804') North Ridge - a class 3 scramble if you do the optional towers, but can walk around these. 5.2 miles, 2,860' gain. From Interstate 70, take the Copper Mtn. exit and drive south on CO Highway 91 for approx. 11 miles to reach Fremont Pass and the Climax Mine. Continue less than 1 mile south down CO 91 and turn left on a dirt road after making most of the 180-degree turn on the highway. On the dirt road, stay right and continue 0.3 mile to reach parking near a road junction. Approx. coordinates: 39.35790, -106.18054. Good route description at 14ers.com.

Mt. Tweto (13,672') and Mt. Arkansas (13,804'). Class 2/ Class 2+ scramble - 8.2 miles, 3300' gain.  Take Highway 9 one mile south of Alma turn west onto Mosquito Gulch Road. Drive 6.8 miles to a point where the road turns left and crosses Mosquito Creek before climbing up toward Mosquito Pass. There's parking 0.1 mile after the left turn. This is an "unofficial" trailhead and is a good place to park if you have a 2WD vehicle. Walk to the junction of the Mosquito Pass road and the 4WD road which heads toward the upper end of Mosquito Gulch, hike for 0.5 mile on the 4WD road to reach another road junction, turn right.

The road ends at the mine ruins at 12,600' . Continue to the saddle at the north west towards end of the basin. Follow Tweto's southwest ridge on sometimes-loose talus to reach the summit. 

Follow the loose rocky, undulating ridge, north west for approx 1 mile to reach the summit of Mt. Arkansas.  Reverse the route to Tweto and the TH.  Good route description at 14ers.com.

Traverse: Arkansas (13,804’) -  Tweto (13,619') - Treasurevault (13,691’) - Mosquito (13,694') - Kuss (13,546'). 10.5 miles, 4,700’ gain.
