Puma Peak and Little Puma
Two peaks in the Puma Hills with fantastic views of South Park and the Lost Creek Wilderness.
The Puma Hills are low, wooded mountains between South Park and Tarryall Creek. Puma Peak (11,570') and Little Puma (11,449') are the most prominent peaks.
Use a combination of old mining roads and off-trail bushwhacking to summit these peaks. SummitPost has excellent directions to the TH, a Nat Geo map, and turn-by-turn trail guidance. Other routes are available at ListsofJohn, Peakbagger, and at AllTrails. A high-clearance 4x4 vehicle may be needed.
The route starts at unsigned Packer Gulch TH (approx 9700'). There is some confusion about where that is but several tracks using this route use this or this.
