Trip Report

Ascending Hikes – Apex Trailhead - Apex and Enchanted Forest Trail Loop

Enjoyable spring trip through the Apex Park. The park system has clear trails on the south-facing slopes while the north-facing slopes have snow and muddy trail conditions, especially on the Enchanted Forest Trail.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Argos, Magic Mountain, Apex Trails are dry and clear. The Enchanted Forest Trail has ~1/2" snowfall on the shady, north-facing trail aspects.

We met in the early-morning hours with the temperature of ~35 degrees. After quick trailhead briefing, we began our ascent on the Argos Trail. We transitioned to the Magic Mountain Trail, Rocker Trail, and the Apex Trail. We arrived at the Apex Park West Access at Lookout Mountain Road ~11:30. Due to traffic noise and pedestrian traffic, we retired to the Enchanted Forest Trail western terminus for a well-deserved break. After lunch, we continued on EB Enchanted Forest Trail, EB Magic Mountain Trail, EB Argos Trail, and return to the Apex Park Trailhead. We were fortunate to see a wild turkey, several game trails, and the early blooms of American Plum and yellow violets. A most satisfying trip with cool temperatures, seasonal, dry-to-muddy trails, and good company for this early-Spring event.
