Climbing Course

Intro to Multi-Pitch Climbing

This course is designed to teach participants (who already know how to lead belay) the essentials to safely and efficiently follow multi-pitch climbs.

Are you ready to move on from single pitch climbing at the crag? Do you want to ascend the high walls of Eldo or conquer the Flatirons? Then this course is for you. Over two days in the field at Eldorado Canyon State Park and/or the Flatirons we will cover the following:

- Removing trad gear (cams, nuts, tri cams) and gear management (racking and transferring techniques)
- Communication (radios are so nice)
- Rope management (become an expert pancake flipper)
- Rappel techniques/refresher (you can't always walk off)
- Simply being a good follower (awareness that there is always something to do)
The first day will start on the ground to cover the concepts mentioned above. We will then take you on a classic climb ranging from the Flatirons, Wind Tower, the Bastille, or the Redgarden Wall based on desire and skill.
Course requirements:
- Experienced at being a good person
- Lead belay experience is a must. Preferably certified at a gym. My life is in your hands!
- Basic Rappel Skills
- Knots: figure 8 retrace, clove hitch, auto block, stopper knot
We can tweak the course some based on skills of the group but we will not cover detailed anchor building or leading skills. The goal is to simply get some pitches under your belt. There will be no powerpoints, zooms or class rooms. Our teaching style is hands-on at the crag to get you on as much rock as possible.
