Continued practice doing mock trad leads and learning/practicing improvised aid climbing.

We will meet at the North Table Mountain South Trailhead, also known as the Golden Cliffs main parking area, at the end of Peery Parkway. We will be at the lower of the two parking lots (not the overflow parking) with the outhouse. Be there by 8 am.

Students will continue to practice doing mock trad leads and belaying from the top of a route.  They will learn how to use improvised aid climbing to get up a route and to see how their trad gear placements hold under weight.

Required Equipment

  • Basic climbing kit- harness, helmet, shoes, pack
  • Non-locking carabiners- #11 total
  • Locking carabiners- #7 total with at least 3 HMS type
  • Quickdraws- #4
  • 60 cm sewn slings (dyneema or nylon)- #4
  • 120 cm sewn slings- #2 with at least one made of nylon (for tether) and one thin Dyneema to release autoblocking belay device
  • Autoblocking belay device (BD Guide, Petzl Reverso, GriGri, etc…)
  • Cordelette: 14-20ft length of 7 mm nylon accessory cord
  • Rappel back-up sling- 10- 15 inch tied loop of 5-6 mm nylon cord, or small Hollow-block loop
  • Nut tool
  • Trad pro- whatever you own- nuts, hexes, cams, Tri-cams, etc… Some gear available for loan from Club and instructors. Cams should be equipped with their own racking cara
  • Gear sling- alternatively may use 60 cm sling or tied loop of cord/webbing
