This is a two part series for Backpacking Section (BPX) Members (other CMC Members may be included if space permits). This Session 1 is geared towards hiking participants. Session 2 on July 17 is geared towards Trip Leaders. Note that Session 1 is a prerequisite for Session 2 unless the attendee can demonstrate they are adept in all the skills covered in the first Session.

Session 1: For the Hiking Participant

This session will cover how to import a GPS Track from the trip leader into your smartphone, then how to follow that Track while recording your Route while in the field.  Plus more!

To get the most out of these training sessions, we strongly recommend subscribing to the premium version of GAIA to take advantage of the full suite of GAIA GPS capabilities. The price is $59.90 / year paid through a monthly subscription.

During the session volunteer ‘experts’ will be available for hands on assistance during the class.

Assumptions:

  • Smartphone is required
  • The training sessions will primarily use iPhones however, Android phones will work fine with a few nuances that will be discussed.
  • Users will have already installed the premium version of the GAIA GPS application from the App Store and created their account.
