This training is geared towards trip participants as well as Trip Leaders. IMPORTANT: To get the most out of this training, we strongly recommend creating a 'free' CalTopo account prior to attending this session.

We will cover how to import a GPS Track from the trip leader into your smartphone, then how to follow that Track while recording your Route while in the field.  Plus more!

Assumptions:

  • Smartphone is required
  • The training sessions will primarily use iPhones however, Android phones will work fine with a few nuances.
  • Users will have already installed the CalTopo application from the App Store and created their account.

This event is hosted by the Backpacking Section (BPX) for BPX members only. Contact the CMC office if you would like to join the BPX Section.

Your Presenter: Craig Townsend is a trip leader and instructor across several CMC schools—most notably Wilderness Trekking School—and enjoys helping others get excited about embracing the thrill, rewards, and adventure of exploring Colorado’s backcountry.
