Hello!

Allow me to introduce myself. I am Stacey Halvorsen, the Chief Education Officer at CMC. I have been a member of CMC since 2002 and joined the staff in 2021. It's a great honor for me to be part of the CMC community. CMC is not just an organization that offers recreational opportunities and education to Colorado enthusiasts; it also promotes conservation, mountain safety, wilderness ethics, and health and wellness.

You might wonder what a Chief Education Officer does. Simply put, I oversee adult, youth, and family programs. My daily tasks range from meeting with potential partners like Butterfly Pavilion, facilitating activities at the Leadership Summit, approving expense reports and managing budgets, hiring and training staff (including Youth Programs instructors), writing grants, presenting at conferences on how nature-based programs can address loneliness, drafting an Active Shooter procedure for our staff handbook, reviewing new Wilderness First Aid guidelines, scheduling inspections with childcare licensing agents, serving on the Advisory Board for Red Rocks Community College Outdoor Recreation Program, developing marketing strategies for upcoming events like film festivals, investigating Navex reports, designing summer camp curricula, scheduling private guided hut trips for clients, being interviewed by publications like 5280 on the best hikes in Colorado, to meeting with members interested in restarting family sections. My job varies greatly every day, from strategic planning to hands-on implementation, and I thoroughly enjoy the diversity of it.

Outside of my work at CMC, I cherish spending time with my family. I have a one- and three-year-old who keep me on my toes. My three-year-old recently learned to ski and has become quite the unstoppable force, both literally and figuratively. As a relatively new parent, I find joy in sharing my love of nature with my children and experiencing the world through their eyes. Growing up in Colorado, I understand how impactful these experiences can be, and I am eager to pass on my passion for the outdoors to my kids.

As your Chief Education Officer, I am committed to upholding the excellent work our organization has been doing since 1912. I look forward to forging new partnerships and identifying opportunities for growth and improvement.

But I cannot do this alone. CMC is fortunate to have dedicated members and volunteers with great ideas and a passion for the mountains. I am thankful to work alongside hardworking staff and volunteers who are all committed to CMC's mission. Let's continue this journey together! I would love to hear from you.

Sincerely,

Stacey Halvorsen
