Backpack – BPX 2-Day: White Ranch Loop from White Ranch West TH

Meet at the White Ranch West Trailhead (25373 Belcher Hill Road, Golden CO, 80403)

10am ready to hike w/ packs on.

This is a FAMILY backpacking trip. Family is defined as one parent per family minimum accompanying at least one child age(s) 6 yrs and up welcome, 10 yrs and up encouraged.

Gear Shakedowns are meant to simulate a bigger wilderness adventure, so you can test your gear choices, weight, learn a new skill or two, and ask lots of questions before really getting out there.

Day 1: Drive to White Ranch West Trailhead. Hike the gently rising and falling Rawhide Trail loop to the Sourdough camping area (1.8 miles, 300ft ascent and 300ft descent).  Pit toilets and bear box storage are available at the campground. Optional short hike up the Rawhide trail behind the campground to a lovely viewing spot. This part of the trail loops back down to the camping area.

Day 2: Continue hiking the Rawhide trail back to the TH (3.5miles, 700ft ascent and 600ft descent). Option to explore more tails before driving home.

**No drinking water is available at the campsite. Plan accordingly.

Helpful to know: Kids should not carry a pack that weighs more than approximately 12-15% of their body weight (Eg. - An 80lb child, not more than about a 12lb pack). Pack weight includes: pack + gear + water + snacks, etc.

(16 participants total) Two sites are reserved with 8 people/site max. each with a picnic table and tent pad. There is a restroom.
