Backpack – BPX 3-Day: Bison and McCurdy Peaks from Lost Park TH

We will do an easier backpack than what is described in the Routes and Places. Day One we will depart from the Lost Park camp ground on the Brookside McCurdy TH, backpack 4.3 miles and 983 ft elevation gain along Indian Creek and set up our base camp. Day Two we will day hike to McCurdy Mountain which includes some off trail and navigation to the peak, and on the way back hike up Bison Peak ( Bison Peak is 1.5 miles round trip and 450 ft elevation gain) also including off trail and navigation to the peak. Total for Day Two 9.5 miles RT and 3,273 ft elevation gain. Day three we will pack up and hike out 4 miles to the TH. This area is in Lost Park Wilderness and is some of the most rugged and beautiful wilderness I've see, with beautiful rock formations, golden aspen groves in the fall, and wildlife--especially moose in the streams and willows.

No water exists on top of the plateau where McCurdy Mountain  Bison Peak are.  I recommend at least  4 liters of water ( possibly 5 -6 liters if you drink more water) during this day hike. Day Two will be a day hike so only essential items, lunch and water will be carried.

UR sack with smell proof inner bag  or bear canister is required.

Meet at Woolly Mammoth Park N Ride Section HH at 7:20 A.M..
