This is an awesome out and back hike that uses a shorter stretch of the much longer Fall Creek Trail. This route goes through some wooded, shaded valley and then onto some more exposed ridge line trail. The lake itself is really nice, and in good weather some hikers have been known to go for a dip. If we feel like a much longer hike, we can continue on Fall Creek Trail and head up to some higher viewpoints.
Highlights include stunning views, beautiful wildflowers, and a glorious lake. Challenges are steep climbs and rough road conditions.
Day 1 – From Halfmoon TH hike in 3.8 miles on Fall Creek Trail, FT2001, to Lake Constantine. Set up camp then fish or explore Lake Constantine, waterfall, and/or Tuhare Lakes (3.8 miles/1,362 ft gain). Plenty of camping spaces around the lake.
Day 2 – Break camp and hike out to starting TH.
It's hard to find good campsites at this lake because the established tent spots are near water, so to comply with the 100 foot rule you sometimes need to pitch your tent on a spot that hasn't been impacted. The Forest Service would rather you do this than be too close to water. The best sites are the ones at the far southern end of the lake, near where Fall Creek enters the lake. No fires are allowed at the lake or above 11K feet in this area.
