The hike is beautiful starting in the Hayman Burn area then going into the Pike National Forest following Goose Creek with views of amazing distant rock formations until the trail branches to the area of two cabins with interior remains clearly visible. The plan is to eat lunch at the cabins then follow a trail up through the forest that passes between huge amazing rock formations until the ruins of the steam pump machinery are reached.
If I have not had the pleasure of hiking with you before, I will want to communicate with you prior to the close date of the hike to determine if you have any medical conditions that I should be aware of (e.g. diabetes, asthma/COPD, heart or seizure condition, predisposition to muscle strains or sprains) and the type of hikes you have done in the last 2 months with a similar distance and gain if your hiking history is not on your CMC profile page.
An email will be sent to registered hiking participants on Saturday afternoon on November 8th to provide an updated weather report and an illustrated route to the trailhead on Google maps.
An early start time is necessary due to a five hour hike duration, sunset at 4:52pm and a 20+ mile rough dirt road to the trailhead. Pueblo participants will meet at 7:00 am in the Southeast corner of the Albertson's parking lot at 1601 W US Highway 50, Pueblo 81001, Colorado Springs hikers will meet at 8:00 am at the Walmart in Woodland Park at 19600 US-24, Woodland Park, 80863, and all others will meet at the Goose Creek Trailhead at 9:30 am in Deckers 80135. The hike start time will be no later than 9:45 am. The hike starts at the trailhead.
Because of the rough road, a minimum of a AWD SUV with good clearance is recommended (e.g. RAV4, Subaru Outback or Crosstrek). Allow at least 1 hour to navigate the dirt road to the trailhead.
