Trip
Hiking – Mt Tweto & Mt Arkansas
We are affectionately calling our hike Mosquito Madness Extravaganza, or “MME” for short. The goal while planning this trip was to hike in a ridge loop and hit several 13-ers. Weather permitting, we will traverse several passes and saddles from which we will ascend at least 5 peaks. Some of this hike follows old mining roads.

We will set out from the Mosquito Pass trailhead (near Alma) proceeding north to Mount Arkansas (13,783’) and then return to our “loop” reaching the summits of Tweto (13,619”) Treasurevault (13,691’), Mosquito (13,694), Kuss (13,546). There are options to visit Buckskin and London Mountains as well if we feel extra ambitious and the weather cooperates. This hike without the “extras” is about 10.5 miles with 4700’ of elevation gain. The hike will combine ridge walks with some sections on old mining roads/jeep trails. There are sections that include mild class 2 scrambling.
Less than ideal weather cancels trip as we will be above treeline on ridges and peaks.
Due to our long day above treeline, we are starting the hike at 5:30 am. Leader and co-leader are camping out in the area the night before. If you are driving up the morning of the hike, meet for a 3:40 am departure at the US 285 & Twin Forks PnR. Drive time to the Mosquito Pass Trailhead is 1 hour 45 minutes.
If you choose to meet at the trailhead, please notify the trip leaders ahead of time and plan to arrive by 5:30 am.
