I did a dry-run of the hike yesterday, December 27th. Most of FSR 320, and the trail to the creek, were dry but there were some small to large areas of ice and mud that I was able to hike without traction. As of today (Dec 28th), the weather forecast for next week in Rye is sunny and dry with mild wind and temps in the high 40's so likely the road and trail should be drier. In the event the area receives a significant amount of snow, the trip may be reposted on CMC.org as a snowshoe outing or the location of the trip may be changed.
An email will be sent to those registered for the hike on the afternoon or evening of Friday, January 2nd providing updated information on the trip and a detailed weather forecast for January 4th.
Pueblo participants will meet in the strip mall parking lot west of the Loaf and Jug on the corner of Lake Ave and Pueblo Blvd in Pueblo (1201 W. Pueblo Blvd, 81005) for a 9:00 am departure, participants closer to Rye can meet at the Cuerno Verde Rest Center immediately to the right when exiting I-25 at the Colorado City exit (74 I-25 Exit, Pueblo, CO 81004) for a 9:20 am departure, and all others can meet at the closed winter gate at FSR 320 (9470 Old San Isabel Road, Rye 81069) at 9:40 am for a 9:50 am hike departure. Per CMC policy, the hike starts at the trailhead.
