Trip Leader School Info
Are you ready to become a CMC Volunteer Trip Leader?? Pick the trips you want to lead, the time you want to lead them, share the experience with others, make new friends, and help promote fun and safe enjoyment of the Colorado Outdoors. What could be better?
All you need to do is follow a few steps to become a CMC Trip Leader.

Step 1: The process starts with a self-paced online course via CoAssemble to learn:
a. Types of trips you will be qualified to lead and how to get additional certifications/training
b. The duties and responsibilities of a Colorado Mountain Club Trip Leader
c. Information about planning and conduction a trip
d. Safety management and emergency response
e. CMC trip policies, guidelines, and insurance policy
f. CMC history, structure, and programs
** You'll reinforce this understanding by reading the CMC Leadership Manual while interacting with the online course and assessments***
Step 2: Earning the Wilderness First Aid certificate and Badge (information will be provided in an email after you finish the CoAssemble Course)
Step 3: Join with other prospective leaders in an outdoor Scenario Session hike and review some common trip happenings and trip leader challenges
Step 4: Conduct your very first trip in a Leader-In-Training (LIT) hike under the guidance of a current CMC Mentor trip leader to show your trip leading ability. For more information about the LIT process check out - Denver Group LIT Trip Process for Students
Step 5: See your Trip Leader Badge appear on your profile!
