"Patagonia - Route of the Parks"

In early 2023, Fort Collins CMC members Steve and Sheila Dielman spent 6 weeks hiking some of the Ruta parks and surrounding area.They will present an overview of the Ruta, the fascinating story of its creation, and some hiking highlights from the trip including an 8 day CMC trek of the "O-loop" within the Parque Torres del Paine (pictured) as well as more off-the -beaten destinations.

La Ruta de los Parques is a network of 17 connected national parks in Patagonia spanning 1700 miles and encompassing 28 million acres with the goal of becoming the most important conservation route in the world. It was created from pre-existing and newly protected lands. as a continuous corridor, the Ruta provides important wildlife habitat and migratory corridors to over 150 bird and 50 mammal species. It is also home to a vast array of dramatic mountain peaks, ice sheets, glaciers, pampas grasslands, forests, and the largest system of fjords on the planet.
