Bobcats Section
Bobcats Section The Bobcats’ mission is to ensure a variety of adventurous CMC trips, mostly on weekdays, all year long. Our trips tend to be faster-paced, on more challenging routes, and with fewer stops. We foster a strong community of hikers seeking challenge, discovery, and camaraderie. https://www.cmc.org/groups-sections/special-interest-sections/bobcats-section https://www.cmc.org/groups-sections/special-interest-sections/bobcats-section/@@download/image/Bobcats-Section-photo-2022-2048x1536.jpg

Bobcats Section

The Bobcats’ mission is to ensure a variety of adventurous CMC trips, mostly on weekdays, all year long. Our trips tend to be faster-paced, on more challenging routes, and with fewer stops. We foster a strong community of hikers seeking challenge, discovery, and camaraderie.

We don’t have dues, and we invite all CMC members to sign up for any Bobcats trip.

A monthly newsletter is sent to all Bobcats members which includes a list of upcoming Bobcats trips with links to trip details and registration.

On the cmc.org website you can search for Bobcats trips from the Education & Adventure heading. Select "Find Trips", then scroll down to the filter labeled "With this group/section..." and check the box for "Bobcats Section". This will display a list of all upcoming Bobcats trips in ascending date order.

Scrambling Definitions and Links:

Summary of Scrambling classification levels (Yosemite Decimal System – “YDS”)

  • Class 1: Hiking on well-established trails.
  • Class 2: More challenging hiking, possibly off-trail, where hands may be used occasionally for balance. This can include easy snow climbs or traversing talus and scree.
  • Class 3: Scrambling or un-roped climbing requiring frequent use of hands to navigate steep or rugged terrain, such as large rocks or steep snow.
  • Class 4: Climbing that necessitates handholds and footholds for progression. Due to the steep and hazardous nature of the terrain, rope is sometimes employed, as falls can be fatal.
  • Class 5: Technical climbing involving the use of ropes and belaying. This category encompasses traditional rock climbing.
