New Member Hikes

Introductory hike for new and prospective members to become familiar with the Colorado Mountain Club.

Have You Signed Up For Your First CMC Hiking Trip?

If not, consider a "New Member Hike," designed to get you started.  Open to all new members plus all guests seeking information about the Club.  This introductory hike will provide you much information about CMC opportunities, using the website, special interest sections, and schools. The trip leader also will answer your questions about choosing a trip, hiking pace/speed, gear, trip categories, transportation, etc.

Sign up by going to the CMC calendar and search for “New & Prospective Member” trips, (suggest you switch to list view, in the upper right corner, because it shows available roster spots), then click the trip you want. It will take you to a trip detail page where you can register. You will receive last minute instructions from the trip leader by email a few days before the trip.

Remember that any CMC trip is available to you, so check out the entire calendar.  If you aren’t sure what you can do, call the CMC office at 303-279-3080, or the trip leader for advice (contact info at the trip details page), or just try any Easy or Moderated-rated trip.

If your chosen trip is full, please add yourself to the waiting list. Waitlists usually clear and, if a spot becomes available, you will be moved automatically to the trip roster, and receive an email notice.  By the way, bad or cold weather does NOT automatically cause trip cancellation.  Look to your trip leader to contact you about that.

If you need to cancel out of the trip, go to cmc.org, log in, click My Membership (or Guest listing), then My Activities, then find the trip and click “cancel.”  Because that lets someone else move onto the roster, it’s good etiquette to cancel as soon as possible.
