Fly Fishing

If you have ever wanted to learn to fly fish or improve your existing skills, this school is for you. Designed for both beginning and novice anglers, the CMC Fly Fishing School has a long history and reputation for quality and cost-effective fly-fishing instruction. Our instructors help students learn in the classroom as well as on the water. Instructors teach students about fly-fishing equipment, casting, knots, flies, fish behavior, wading safety and more! The school includes two evening classes and three field days. Completion of this school (or similar fly-fishing experience) is required for the Denver Group’s Fly-Fishing section trips.

Students receive a comprehensive 100-page handbook, 24 flies, and accessories -- valued at over $100. You will need: sunglasses, appropriate clothing (hat, base layers, insulation layer and waterproof jacket) a 5-weight fly rod, fly reel with backing and 5-weight floating fly line (preferably weight forward), chest waders and wading belt, wading boots, and a valid Colorado fishing license before the first field day.

Guidance on equipment purchases will be provided in the classroom, so if you don’t already have equipment please wait until you receive that guidance. The CMC Fly Fishing Section has some rental rods and reels, and the school instructors will assist you in equipment selection during the class nights.

Note to all students: You can’t miss any field trip. The field trips are waders on, hands on, in the stream teaching and are mandatory to graduate.
